Wilms' tumor

also  Wilms's tumor  n :  a malignant tumor of the kidney that primarily affects children and is made up of embryonic elements - called also nephroblastoma 
 
Wilms, Max (1867-1918),
German surgeon. Wilms held professorships at Basel, Switzerland, and at Leipzig and Heidelberg, Germany. He developed several operations, including resection of the ribs to produce depression of the chest and compression of the lungs (1911) and benign stricture of the common bile duct (1912). He described Wilms' tumor in 1899.
