n : any of several nonreducing water-soluble low-molecular-weight polysaccharides formed by cultivation of a bacterium of the genus Bacillus (B. macerans) upon starch solutions Schardinger, Franz (fl 1902), Austrian biochemist. Schardinger discovered xanthine oxidase in 1902.
