dam·ar
or dam*mar n : any of various resins obtained chiefly in Malaysia and Indonesia from several timber trees (as genera Shorea and Vatica of the family Dipterocarpaceae and genus Canarium of the family Burseraceae) and used as a mounting medium in microscopy and in varnishes and inks .
