Cog·gins test
n : a serological immunodiffusion test for the diagnosis of equine infectious anemia esp. in horses by the presence of antibodies to the causative virus - called also Coggins Coggins test vt Coggins, Leroy (b 1932), American veterinary virologist. Coggins held successive positions as professor of veterinary virology at Cornell and North Carolina State Universities. In addition to his research on equine infections anemia, his areas of research included equine influenza and the viruses of variola, hog cholera, bovine virus diarrhea, and African swine fever. He introduced the Coggins test in 1970.
