Van Slyke method

n :  any of several analytical methods : esp  :  the determination of free amino groups (as in amino acids or proteins) by measuring the volume or pressure of nitrogen gas formed by reaction with nitrous acid
 
Van Slyke, Donald Dexter (1883-1971),
American biochemist. Van Slyke served as a research biochemist first at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (1907-49) and then at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (1949-71). He conducted extensive research in the application of chemistry to clinical and investigative medicine and in so doing made major discoveries in chemistry, medicine, and physiology which brought about the development of new analytical methods and apparatuses.
