or chiefly Brit sul*pha*thi*a*zole n : a sulfa drug C9H9N3O2S2 derived from thiazole and sulfanilamide that is seldom prescribed because of its toxicity but was formerly used esp. in the treatment of pneumococcus and staphylococcus infections .
