n : INTERVENTRICULAR FORAMEN Monro, Alexander (Secundus) (1733-1817), British anatomist. Professor of anatomy at Edinburgh, Monro was the first physician to use the stomach pump and the first to perform paracentesis. In 1783 he published his observations on the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. This work contained a definitive description of the interventricular foramen between the lateral ventricles of the brain. He was also the author of an early, important textbook on comparative anatomy and treatises on the brain, eye, and ear.
