n 1 : the upper and smaller of the two sensory ganglia of the glossopharyngeal nerve that may be absent but when present is situated in a groove in which the nerve passes through the jugular foramen - called also jugular ganglion - compare INFERIOR GANGLION1 2 : the upper of the two ganglia of the vagus nerve that is situated at the point where it exits through the jugular foramen - called also jugular ganglion , uperior vagal ganglion - compare INFERIOR GANGLION2 .
