n :  any of the granular epithelial cells with large acidophilic nuclei occurring at the base of the crypts of Lieberkühn in the small intestine and appendix
 
Paneth, Josef (1857-1890),
Austrian physiologist. A professor of physiology in Vienna, Paneth published a description of the granular cells in the crypts of Lieberkühn in 1888.
