Wechs·ler Adult Intelligence Scale

n :  an updated version of the Wechsler-Bellevue test having the same structure but standardized against a different population to more accurately reflect the general population - abbr. WAIS
 
Wechsler, David (1896-1981),
American psychologist. Wechsler enjoyed a long association with New York City's Bellevue Hospital, serving as chief psychologist from 1932 to 1967. He is known as the inventor of several widely used intelligence tests for adults and children, including the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale introduced in 1939 and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, introduced in 1955.
