Loa

n :  a genus of African filarial worms of the family Dipetalonematidae that infect the subcutaneous tissues and blood of humans, include the eye worm (L. loa) causing Calabar swellings, are transmitted by the bite of flies of the genus Chrysops, and are associated with some allergic manifestations (as hives) .
