Pi·nus
n : a large and economically important genus (the type of the family Pinaceae) of coniferous trees chiefly of north temperate regions that in former classifications included pines, firs, spruces, larches, and hemlocks but is now restricted to the true pines and that includes a number which yield products (as pine tar) with medicinal applications .
