n : a toxic polypeptide antibiotic isolated from a bacillus (Bacillus subtilis) and usu. used topically esp. against gram-positive bacteria Tra•cy, Margaret, American hospital patient. The antibiotic bacitracin was first identified in 1945 in wound drainage from Margaret Tracy.
