Des·ce·met's membrane
n : a transparent highly elastic apparently structureless membrane that covers the inner surface of the cornea and is lined with endothelium - called also membrane of Descemet , posterior elastic lamina Des•ce•met, Jean (1732-1810), French physician. Descemet's areas of study ranged from treatment of gout and measles to the anatomy of the eye and skin. Around 1759 he published a complete description of the membrane now known as Descemet's membrane, which had been first described in 1729 by a British ophthalmologist, Benedict Duddell.
